2009 Preseason Evaluations

January 23rd, 2009

As temperatures still hover near single digits we longingly look forward to spring and the start of yet another Prohibition Pirates of the Parkway season.  The Pirates are returning eight veteran players while signing some new talent.  With these improvements, the Pirates should definitely be a strong contender for the 2009 ECABL title.

Pirates’ owner, Vin Bertrand had some positive words for the club’s upcoming season.  “There’s no question that my expectation in 2009 is that we have a better team than we did last year,” he said. “Even as we continue to build for the long-term success of the franchise, a real, championship-caliber organization that can compete on a sustainable basis, we have to have a better team in 2009 and better than what the VFW Parkway has seen lately.”  His words, while slightly harsh, are sure to fuel the team as it prepares for its fourth season.  Despite failing to advance past the first round of playoffs the previous few seasons, they are upbeat and confident that they can match up toe to toe with any team in the league.

Sadly, the team has lost a few players due to injuries, marriages, and witness relocation, but in an attempt to fill in these gaps, they have actively pursued new talent to bring to the club.  Hopefully posts on Craigslist and through word of mouth will result in some much needed help in the pitching department.  Judging by the early season workouts, the PPoP are gelling well already.  The Pirates are still looking for talented individuals and holding open workouts throughout the coming weeks.  Interested individuals should contact information AT prohibitionpirates DOT com
